Day-by-Day Itinerary

  1. 1

Arrive Kigali & Transfer to Volcanoes

Land in Kigali and meet your Wylda Safaris host for a city orientation — optional stops at the Kigali Genocide Memorial if timing and preference allow, approached with care and respect. Continue north through terraced hills glowing green toward Volcanoes National Park. Check into a luxury lodge with volcano views, enjoy a farm-to-table dinner, and receive a detailed briefing on trek fitness, photography etiquette, and gorilla family protocols.

  2. 2

    Gorilla Trekking Day

Before dawn, transfer to park headquarters for ranger allocation and porter introductions. Hike through farmland into misty bamboo and Hagenia forest — terrain and duration vary by gorilla location that morning. When you reach your family, spend a transformative hour watching silverbacks, mothers, and playful juveniles in their world. Descend for a celebratory lunch and spa recovery at the lodge. Evening includes a conservation talk on how tourism funds protection across the Virunga massif.

  3. 3

Culture, Caves & Twin Lakes Option

A gentler day: visit the Iby'Iwacu cultural village or similar partner community for dance, storytelling, and craft. Alternatively, explore Musanze caves or take a scenic drive toward the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo for photography and coffee tasting. Afternoon at leisure — lodge pool, massage, or journaling the trek. Private dinner arranged with volcano silhouettes as night falls.

  4. 4

    Return to Kigali & Departure

Breakfast with a final volcano panorama before driving south to Kigali. Use any buffer time for craft shopping in Kimironko or a quiet café interlude. Airport drop-off aligned to your flight. Depart carrying something rarer than souvenirs: the memory of eye contact across species in a forest that still feels ancient.
